Standing up for Reading

Woodley Arms site

Plans to build flats on the Woodley Arms site  turned down

Katesgrove councillor Rose Williams and I had an amazing response from local people when we told them that plans to build flats on the Woodley Arms site had been turned down.

Rose couldn't remember seeing residents so happy at the result of a planning appeal and she found it hard not to well up with emotion.

As local councillors, Rose, Sophia James and I hope that much needed social housing can be built on the pub site, in keeping with the terraced houses on the rest of Waldeck Street.

This sort of sensible development should not lead to many extra cars parking in the area, which was one of the concerns residents expressed - as well as that a large block of flats would be out of keeping with a Victorian terraced street.

The picture shows Rose outside the pub on Friday (February 12th).
