“I was very encouraged by the diversity of views and opinions expressed by students; they are a very engaged intake and I am certain will be wonderful additions to the student body. They have a clear sense of both who they are and what they believe is best for society. I look forward to working with the Society in the coming academic year.”

Reading University Labour Society President Serhan Wade added:

“This year’s Freshers Fayre has been particularly successful for the Labour Society. It was great to see the effect the General Election had on the students, making them more aware of political issues than ever before. I have no doubt our Society will build on that amazing awareness over this coming academic year, but this wouldn’t be possible without my team, Matt and other Labour members helping us at this fantastic event.”

Youth Officer Ellie said:

“The Labour Society stall at the Freshers Fayre was an excellent day that demonstrated student energy. Matt’s appearance was very welcomed, and many students were interested to find out how he is finding Parliament.”

“It has been great to work alongside Maureen, Serhan and Ellie today, and it is really inspiring to see so many new faces at the Freshers Fayre. I’ve met with plenty of students eager to join the Reading University Labour Society on their return to another year of university. There has also been a steady stream of students who are both new to University life and new to Labour -; and who want to discover more about the Labour Party. With over 150 new signings just today, it proves that our young voters feel passionately about what the Labour Party stands for and that our young members want to become more involved in local politics and feel encouraged in having their voices heard.”
