Reading East MP Matt Rodda congratulated the Royal Berkshire Hospital on achieving an outstanding Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, with results attained despite the serious pressures facing the hospital and other parts of the NHS.

Staff were able to demonstrate improvement in all of the services inspected which included urgent and emergency care, medical care -; including older people’s care, surgery, critical care and outpatients.

Matt believes it is important to acknowledge the achievements of our much-loved NHS despite the rising demand, and the fact that Government funding has not kept up with this increased need.

Staff work extremely hard to serve the public, and are trying to deliver the highest quality service despite the lack of Government funding which led to non-urgent operations being cancelled in January.

Chief Executive at the Royal Berkshire Hospital Steve McManus said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have received an outstanding rating for the Royal Berkshire Hospital. This is a testament to everyone’s hard work and unwavering commitment. We are pleased that feedback from the CQC demonstrates to the communities we serve that our services are safe, caring and effective.”

He added:
“Although we have been rated outstanding we know we are not perfect – there are areas to work on and the report will help us to focus on addressing the issues highlighted by the report where we can continue to make improvement.”
