Reading East MP Matt Rodda and Thames Valley Police Local Area Commander for Reading Stan Gilmour met with dignitaries from Pakistan and held discussions concerning the commonalities in community policing between the UK and Pakistan.

Mr Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Inspector General of the Police in the Sindh Province in south-eastern Pakistan – and who now also acts as a Police Advisor to the Pakistan High Commission said:
“The culture is changing in Pakistan, and there is a lot to do - especially with regard to the collection of forensic evidence. We are learning a lot from the British Police, and believe the best model for community policing is in the UK.”

Stan Gilmour, Thames Valley Police Local Area Commander for Reading commented:
“If you live and work in Reading, then you have to be a part of the community. A key strength in Reading is that we – the police, the community, our civic organisations and our neighbourhoods - all work together.”

Matt said:
“The key to good community policing is building strong relationships with the wider communities in the town. This is something which Reading can be proud of – community policing can help diffuse so many things through partnering with local organisations and businesses to effect change.”

Following the meeting, Stan Gilmour was presented with an award for 'Outstanding Services to Humanity', which he gratefully received from Mr Memon.
