It was a privilege to attend the Great Western Railway Service of Remembrance, and to remember members of railway staff who gave their lives to defend our freedom.

It was an honour that The Queen attended the service.

Other attendees included members of the armed services, veterans, railway staff, MPs and members of the House of Lords.

I was grateful for the opportunity to lay a wreath on behalf of myself and our community.

I would also like to thank GWR staff for helping me to lay a second wreath in memory of Trooper Fred Potts, from Reading, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for saving an injured comrade in the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915.

The service took place at Paddington Station, next to the Station War Memorial.
