I am extremely disappointed to hear that the The Grumpy Goat in Union Street are being evicted by their landlord with seven days notice. The Goat is a local favourite and was a huge addition to Union Street after moving from the Harris Arcade.

I have written to Kevin Hollinrake, the Minister for Enterprise, Markets and Small Business, to raise the Goat’s case and to ask the government to look into the regulation surrounding the rental of commercial properties and the protections that are in place for small businesses. You can read my letter to the Minister below.

The Grumpy Goat has played a vital role in Reading’s community of independent and small businesses. The number of emails and messages that I have received from constituents expressing their shock and sadness since the news was announced is testament to the impact the Grumpy Goat has had over ten years of trading in Reading.

I hope they will come through this terrible situation and find new premises for their business. I am available to help them in any way I am able.
