The Government’s preferred bidder for buying Reading Gaol has pulled out of negotiations with the Ministry of Justice. I think this gives a wonderful opportunity for a complete and utter rethink, and I’m calling for Ministers to reassess this project, to work with Reading Council and myself, and to work with local arts and community groups to potentially turn the Gaol into an arts and heritage hub.
