The coronavirus has disproportionately affected black, Asian and minority ethnic communities (BAME) in Britain. Despite only representing 14% of the population, a recent study shows that one third of seriously ill coronavirus patients are from black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities (ICNARC, 2020). I support Sadiq Khan’s call for greater transparency from the government and for a reassessment of why BAME communities are most affected. Information on the demographic groups affected by the virus needs to be routinely published. Through this we will know the true extent of the crisis and the right interventions to save lives.
