Thank-you to everyone who took part in the Reading Gaol Hug today, and to everyone who helped organise it. The number of people who voluntarily gave their time today is a huge achievement for the campaign to save Reading Gaol.
Despite patches of rain, the hug had an amazing level of support, with several hundred people linking arms around the gaol’s 750 metre exterior. Today’s turnout shows just how much support there is in Reading for Reading Gaol’s future as an arts and heritage site. I sincerely hope the Ministry of Justice will pay attention and take notice.
The success of this event has galvanised the campaign to save the gaol, and I will continue my work to secure the gaol’s future as an arts and heritage site.
