Matt Rodda Member of Parliament for Reading East
I have written to Dominic Raab to urge him to support the creation of a network of ocean sanctuaries free from human activity by 2030.
The degradation of marine ecosystems (through overfishing, mining, and exploration) poses an existential threat to the climate, to precious biodiversity, and to the war on poverty.
Britain has had an historic role in exploiting ocean resources. And the UK currently holds more seabed exploration licenses than any other country, except for China.
It is time that our Government took on a leading role in protecting our precious oceans from further irreversible damage.
