Bicycles

I am working with the Labour campaigning group, Labour Cycles, as well as with colleagues in Parliament and Labour councils to develop our policies to support cycling and to promote cycling. I met Labour Cycles recently as part of this on-going work.

I also attended the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cycling and spoke about Labour’s plans to support cycling and attended and spoke at an event promoting cycling for children.

I spoke at the Labour local government conference on Saturday, highlighting Labour’s commitment to fund investment in cycling and walking routes to help encourage more people to walk and use bikes. I believe this is a hugely important area of transport policy, which has the potential to transform local areas, reducing congestion and air pollution and carbon emissions, while also helping people lead healthier more active lives.
There was a great deal of interest from a range of councils, including colleagues from Reading Borough Council, which has led by developing a new cycling and walking bridge over the Thames and improving cycle paths.
