Launchpad, Reading’s charity supporting the homeless invited Reading East MP Matt Rodda to take a look around their newly-completed family accommodation in Reading.

The housing, comprising two tastefully-appointed two-bedroomed self-contained flats in a former Victorian terraced home in Reading will provide much needed accommodation for two homeless families; and those currently residing in bed and breakfast accommodation are likely to be the prime beneficiaries.

With excellent transport links and a primary school close by, the two flats are positioned with meeting the needs of young families in mind. As a bonus, a good sized enclosed garden to the rear will provide an invaluable green space outdoors for young children to play safely. Additional fire measures have been provided in the four-storey accommodation, including higher rating fire protection doors and several means of emergency egress in case of fire; all due to more stringent requirements post-Grenfell.

Launchpad Chief Executive Officer Ian Caren said:
“Housing is the building block of life. Our two flats will be offered long-term to two families currently living in bed and breakfast. We need thousands of long-term low rent houses and flats so that families and individuals can plan their future with dignity and hope.”

Following his inspection of the accommodation, Matt Rodda said:
“I’m really pleased that Launchpad have been able to renovate this lovely accommodation to such a high standard. Two families currently in a dire situation in temporary homeless accommodation will benefit immensely – safe in the knowledge of having a secure tenancy, with their children able to grow and thrive in a comfortable and homely environment.”

It is anticipated that two families will be able to move into the newly finished accommodation within a matter of a few weeks.
