Matt Rodda Member of Parliament for Reading East
READING EAST MP and Shadow Minister for Local Transport Matt Rodda welcomed Islington South and Finsbury MP Emily Thornberry to his Reading constituency recently.
The Shadow Foreign Secretary’s visit to the newly-turned Labour seat began with interviews with local media, followed by a much-needed tea break inside a local cafĂ© in Emmer Green, providing shelter and respite from the cold wintry weather.
A canvassing session in Caversham followed, with some excellent support for the Labour Party being received on the doorstep. Emily met with Labour candidates for the forthcoming local Council elections, and chatted amongst local Labour Party members and shoppers in Caversham.
Keeping with the theme of empowering a younger vote -; a topic which was highlighted at the despatch box in Prime Minister’s Questions this week – the North London MP then attended a schools Q&A session in Sonning, where a gathering of Sixth Form students from a variety of local secondary schools awaited her, before she went on to complete her visit to Reading by attending a fund-raising dinner.
Matt said:
“It was a pleasure to host Emily here in Reading today. In spite of the freezing temperatures, we were able to give her an extremely warm welcome both on the doorstep and out on the street talking to local people.”
