MATT RODDA, the newly elected Labour MP for Reading East attended a ‘Great Get Together’ community picnic at Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common.
The event, held on the first anniversary of the death of Labour MP Jo Cox, was well attended by many pupils, parents and staff who chatted with Matt and congratulated him on becoming an MP for the constituency.
The School was recently placed in ‘special measures’ following an inadequate Ofsted rating, and Oxfordshire County Council is currently consulting on its future.  Matt has been a vocal supporter of the School, and today he listened as people voiced their concerns about the possibility of its closure and future of their children’s education.  The consultation process is currently ongoing and is due to end on 30 June 2017.

Enjoying the opportunity to talk with pupils, parents, staff and members of the leadership team in the evening summer sunshine, Matt said:

“Chiltern Edge is a wonderful and much-needed School which serves this area of Reading and South Oxfordshire.  The pupils are very proud of their school and deserve the chance to be able to continue to grow and improve there.  I want to stand up for the school and local families as the consultation continues.”
