Municipally-owned bus company Reading Buses has recently launched plans to start a revised timetable and route map for the bus network serving Caversham, due to start in the New Year. This will involve the loss of the Pink 24 route from Reading town centre to Emmer Green via Hemdean Road and Rotherfield Way. A consultation period is currently underway, and is due to close on 31 October 2017.

Responding to the Reading Buses consultation Matt Rodda said:

“I’m concerned about the proposal to scrap the 24 route and I hope Reading Buses will listen to the views of local people who have concerns about this much loved service.

I am particularly concerned about planned changes to the 22 route, and the potential effect on children and elderly people. It is disappointing that the proposals include the possibility closing a bus stop near the new extra care accommodation for the elderly, which is due to replace the Arthur Clark home on Albert Road.

I would also like to raise concerns about the potential impact on many other bus users, including families and commuters. However, I do welcome the proposals for some extra buses in the evening.

Reading Buses is one of the best bus companies in the country, and I hope our outstanding local publicly-owned service will listen to the concerns of it’s loyal passengers.”
