MATT RODDA MP welcomed the news emerging from the agenda set for the next Cabinet meeting by Oxfordshire County Council, which will discuss the future of Chiltern Edge School.

There is suggestion that Oxfordshire County Council Cabinet members, due to meet on 28 November, will note the recent improvements made by the school. The agenda states a recommendation ‘not to publish a statutory notice proposing closure of Chiltern Edge’.

The school is situated within the neighbouring Henley constituency, around 400 pupils from within the Reading area attend Chiltern Edge. An active campaign spearheaded by teachers, parents and pupils has been ongoing since the early part of Spring when the threat of closure became known. The proposal for the School to become sponsored by Maiden Erlegh, a multi-academy trust in Wokingham, is currently being considered by the Department for Education.

“I’m delighted to hear that Chiltern Edge has been given a chance to stay open on a longer basis by Oxfordshire’s Council Cabinet. Chiltern Edge is a much-loved local school, which is improving under an impressive new head and where students and staff are working hard to achieve outstanding results.”

“I would now call on Oxfordshire to give the school a guarantee that it will remain open for good, so that it can flourish as an outstanding local community school, putting residents in Caversham and Emmer Green at ease, so that they know Chiltern Edge will be there for them and their families.”
