Reading East parliamentary constituency comprises the wards of Abbey, Caversham, Church, Katesgrove, Mapledurham, Park, Peppard, Redlands and Thames (all in the Borough of Reading), and Bulmershe & Whitegates, Loddon and Southlake (from Wokingham Borough).

The seat was last held by Labour from 1997 to 2005 and Matt Rodda is the Labour Party's candidate for the constituency in the 2017 general election. 

Matt also served as candidate for Reading East in 2015 achieving a swing from the Conservatives to Labour, and local elections in recent years show that Labour can beat the Conservatives in Reading East at the next general election.
