Matt Rodda for Reading East

Standing up for Reading

End the cost of living crisis

Labour Party candidate for Reading East Matt Rodda is highlighting the plight of residents squeezed by the cost of living crisis.

Under the Conservative and Lib Dem government the cost of living for ordinary people has soared, at the same time as wages have stagnated.

Matt has been working hard with your local Labour team to help residents hit hard by falling incomes and rising bills. Labour controlled Reading Borough Council is currently promoting a council and NHS scheme to offer free insulation and emergency heating to people suffering from high energy bills during this cold winter.

And at a national level, the Labour Party has called for energy prices to be frozen until 2017 and for energy companies to pass on the reduction in the price of gas and other energy they buy on the wholesale market.

Even with the recent fall in petrol prices residents are reeling from years of price rises and wages which have failed to keep up with inflation.

While Labour has offered help to ordinary people, the Conservatives have shown their true priorities by pushing through a tax cut for those earning over £150,000 a year.

Labour parliamentary candidate, Matt Rodda, said: “Residents are under real pressure and the Conservatives and Lib Dems are letting down the majority of voters by ignoring their concerns.”
